The Avengers Movie - Captain America

Captain America (Avengers Movie Version)

Well, fortunately for me, there are plenty of early photos out there of Captain America's new look for the upcoming Avengers movie.

My initial reaction is that I prefer the original Captain America movie costume to this new one. I like the grittier, rougher, workman-like look of that suit as opposed to the tighter, somewhat over-produced Hollywood-esque costume we look to be getting for the Avengers film. Of course however, I'm willing to wait and see this one on screen in context before I make a firm judgement.

Here's hoping it's a good flick!

Doctor Who - the 5th!

The 5th Doctor (Peter Davison)

Don't worry Whovians, I haven't forgotten about you! With the Doctor Who Christmas special almost upon us, I figured it would be a good time to get out there with another one of the Doctors - This time, Peter Davison's 5th Doctor. He's a favorite Doctor to many - I mean, how can you not respect a man confident enough to wear a vegetable on his lapel?

Anyway, enjoy the DW special this weekend Whovians!

Before you waltz off though, check out some cool Who-Punx inspired stuff by some SP fans. First is a fun piece by Mike;
Also is a great "Dawgs" version of Capt. Jack from Noel at
It's A Dawg's Life;

The TICK!

The TICK!

My introduction to the Tick was the fantastically hilarious Tick Animated Series. It was just so outrageously bizarre, what with it's crazy dialogue and villains inspired by household objects or farm animals. The live-action show was even enjoyable for what it was, albeit short lived.

And Luis is a new friend to SP that has started his own blog.
Here's a taste of the cool stuff he has to offer;

DCnU Wonder Woman

DCnU Wonder Woman

Originally in the promotional material, the Wonder Woman of the New 52 had covered legs. Eventually as the date came closer, more material surfaced with Wondy no longer sporting pants, but back to her shorts. I'm not sure why they did this, but my guess is that they wanted to update the costume, but decided to keep a look that was close enough to the "archetypal look" of Wonder Woman that the public at large associates her with.

The Archie Gang - Betty Cooper!

Betty Cooper

Betty is the girl I always envisioned Archie ultimately ending up with if he were to allowed age and all that.
What do you all think?

On another note, some friends from "down under" at Pathtags sent me this awesome metal tag featuring one of the Doctor Who Angel Punx from this blog! Wow, thanks guys! They use Pathtags as little rewards for people when they are geocaching. If you've never geocached, it's pretty neat, you should look in to it!
 Anyway, check it out -

Springfield Punx Readers Got Talent!

Well a number of SP members have been hard at work putting together some cool work themselves. They've shared their pieces with me and I'd like to share 'em with you. I'm sure they'd really appreciate whatever love you could show them, Punx Nation!

First up is Philip (His site here) with his own Punx style take on a number of Batman: Arkham City characters!

Next is Cess, who has combined some DC heroes from Springfield Punx into a really cool Super Friends wallpaper! Nice touch with the "phasing" Martian Manhunter Cess! Click image to embiggen!

Gareth has also chimed in with his cool Arkham City inspired pics. His site here

Here is Altair from Assassin's Creed! This bad boy is done by Joey (Joey's site here)

And Gabriel has had the great idea of drawing Marvin (the paranoid android) from Hitch Hiker's Guide To The Galaxy!

Many thanks to all you artists and friends!

Batman: Arkham City Week - Joker

Joker

Well, to conclude Arkham City week, here's the one you may have been waiting for - the Joker! I hear that this is sadly Mark Hamill's last crack at the character, which he plays SO masterfully! Arkham Asylum / Arkham City's version of the Joker just looks and sounds fantastic.

Edit - Okay, I'm also getting additional indication that this *may not* end up as Mr. Hamill's last kick at the Joker (and he has indicated that a "Batman: The Killing Joke" audiobook would be something he'd like to be a part of), but I guess we'll have to see.  At any rate, I truly consider the Joker his greatest role, even over Luke Skywalker!

Hm, I wonder - do you think he could pull off an older Joker in a live-action "The Dark Knight Returns"?

Batman: Arkham City Week - Bane

Bane
He's so huge that this page can't even contain him! :) It's kinda neat to see all the interpretations of this hulking bad boy, Bane. Christopher Nolan's take is drastically different from the one in Batman: Arkham City, but that's one of the things that makes these translations to different forms of media so fun.
Not bad for a guy from the 90's...

Batman: Arkham City Week - Batman

Batman
One of the great things about the Batman: Arkham Asylum and Arkham City games is the approach they've taken to character design - The heroes and villains showcase a "Christopher Nolan sensibility" when it comes to detail, texture, and plausibility (visually speaking that is) but they still retain a comic book theatricality and colorful flare. The best of both worlds perhaps?

Tune In Tomorrow, Same Bat-Channel!

Hey all, just wanted to give a heads up on a new theme week starting tomorrow - Batman: Arkham City Week!
So I'll see you tomorrow! Until then however, check out this photo sent in by Punx fan and awesome Batman costumer, Bob Kieffer

And also, here's some great work by a SP reader named Mark. Check out his site here.

DCnU Green Lantern

Green Lantern

With DC's new 52 relaunch, they didn't give Green Lantern's suit much of a change - not that it really needed it anyway.
